Happy New Year 2008!Bonne Année 2008!¡ Próspero Año Nuevo 2008 !The year 2007 was more than interesting for ex-silo.org, as visits continued to increase and page loads soared. Building on 2006 when over 9,000 repeat visitors loaded over 27,000 files, an even 15,000 repeat visitors loaded over 83,000 files in 2007. The old pattern of 3:1, that is three page loads per repeat visitor shifted, however, as the ratio is now halfway between 5:1 and 6:1. This means people are viewing more files per visit, probably because more files are being added as time goes on. To interpret these statistics, keep in mind that the total number of visitors includes repeat visitors, or the same person returning to the site multiple times. In 2007, 15,000 repeat visitors represented 4,500 distinct hosts, or computers requesting files on the Internet. Thus, the real number of visitors in 2007 was 4,500 unique visitors and a similar arithmetic applies to 2006, where the 9,000 repeat visitors breaks down to roughly 3,000 unique visitors, all of which are dispersed around the world. As for page loads, multiple pages may be requested and served for each file. This is often the case for files that have flags, photographs, graphics or other multimedia where each image counts as a separate file. Each file is also made up of a template containing the logo, side bars, top and bottom bars, menu and other features that make up the whole presentation of the page as you see it on the screen. A page like "Silo Mundo", which has many flags, could represent 30 page loads each time a repeat visitor requests the page from our server in Arizona. Thus, the 83,000 page loads in 2007 and the 27,000 in 2006 break down into individual page hit statistics, which vary considerably for each page and further break down geographically, around the world. If you are interested in the statistics for a particular page, those data are private and confidential. Our mission for the new year is to complete our goals from last year, some of which are wanting. We still dream of having a French section and a Spanish section one day. We look forward to seeing the movies soon in 2008. Again, Happy New Year to all in 2008. God save the Queen! Editors - Ex-Silo.org |
